Tog Chod: Tibetan Wisdom Sword Meditation
Limited Capacity seats available

Tog Chod is a practical method for developing mindfulness, self-confidence and clarity. Students experience an empowering “moving meditation” which transforms habitual thought patterns and give the mind clear focus. Described as being energizing and fun, at its core, Tog Chod is about discipline as well as physical and mental training. Executing the decisive movements of the sword, we become fully present, cultivating mindfulness. Thoughts — and our identification with them — are reduced. We begin to experience spaciousness and calm. The forms themselves, rooted in the Kalachakra Tsa Lung exercises and Yama Monk Dances, cultivate a particular energetic quality in the body enabling us to be alert and grounded even amid chaos. Students will learn a new and healthy method to manage stress and anger whilst cultivating self-confidence, courage and the ability to make quick, clear decisions.

The Science of Mindfulness
Limited Capacity seats available

We've all been told about the importance of slowing down the mind through meditation or another type of mindfulness exercise. Do we know why it's important or what is happening when we do?  Craig's logical mind wanted to know more about what is actually happening. This talk reviews that research.  Jammed packed from start to finish... We opening and close with powerful Visualization Exercises and in between, Craig walks us through a riveting exploration of recent science. Craig's presence on stage is entertaining and captivating.  In a fun and practical way, we will review several scientific studies completed over the past 75 years. These studies reveal a new correlation of data which exposes exactly what is happening in our bodies and our mind when we close our eyes to meditate.  Answers await. Let's review "The Science of Mindfulness."

DEMYSTIFYING KUNDALINI YOGA
Limited Capacity filling up

This workshop goes into depth, explaining the reasons why, in Kundalini Yoga, we use mantras (chanting), mudras (hand positions), asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), and drishti (mental or eye focus). Each aspect of a kriya (set) can contain any and all of these practices, combining them to create a powerful tool for personal transformation and healing. Raminderpreet will then take the class through a full Kriya that links all these aspects, offering an experience of greater awareness, peace and connection to self and others. Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice that was once considered secret before Yogi Bhajan brought it to the western world in the 1960’s. Come learn the science: the physiological, neurological, and psychological discoveries that empower us to create real change in our lives.

Teaching to Older Adults
Limited Capacity seats available

Exercise is a crucial part of healthy aging, and as a large percentage of our population are now in their 60’s, 70’s,and 80’s, it is imperative that they are offered low-impact exercise options to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A consistent yoga practice can reduce the risk of falls, increase flexibility and range of motion in the joints, increase strength and reduce stress as we age. As yoga teachers we need to be aware of the risks and contraindications for this demographic. In this 2 hour workshop we will look at some of the issues of aging and how a yoga practice can be adapted to accommodate this population, while still creating fun and functional classes.

Surrendering into the Relationship Between Yin and Yang, Sun and Moon
In the story of Qi Gong, all Creation comes forth from a Oneness of Infinite Potential. To form Creation, this Infinite Oneness extends itself as three interrelating forces: Yin Qi (contraction), Yang Qi (expansion), and a divine intelligence that orchestrates the interrelating of these forces. But the story continues, for the Infinite Oneness and Creation then give all of themselves to one another to create all life, which includes you and I. We are this joining or interrelating between the Oneness of Infinite Potential (our consciousness) and Creation (our being or body). We are both consciousness and being-ness. This brings us to the practice of Qi Gong, for simply put, Qi Gong is the practice of interrelating or, in other words, the practice of relationship. The primary relationship within us is between our consciousness (soul or spirit) and our being (body). Another relationship within us is the interrelating taking place between the Yin Qi (moon) and Yang Qi (sun) forces that form our body. And then there are the relationships between the vibrational layers of our body. Because the Qi of Creation vibrates at different rates or frequencies, Creation has given us a multilayered body …… mental, emotional, energetic, and physical. All of these layers, too, are in relationship with one another. The purpose of the keys and principles handed down to us through the lineages of our practices is to remind us Who We Are and guide us in navigating these many relationships within us. As we work with these keys and principles, we start to remember that all of these relationships are orchestrated by the divine intelligence and power that is Creation. The practice is always showing us how to open ourselves to Her so that she may do her work (gong) through us. We are learning to let go of, and release our attachments to all beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that impede the flow within our internal relationships. In this way we open the pathways running through us that connect Heaven to Earth; that connect the Oneness of Infinite Possibilities to us and our world.

EmpowerYoga Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Although TCTSY employs physical forms and movements, the emphasis is not on the external expression or appearance (i.e. doing it “right”), or receiving the approval  of an external authority. Rather, the focus is on the internal experience of the participant. With this approach, the power resides within the individual, not the TCTSY facilitator.   By focusing on the felt sense of the body to inform choice-making, TCTSY enables participants to restore their connection of mind and body and cultivate a sense of agency that is compromised as a result of trauma. Elements of traditional hatha yoga  are modified to build trauma survivors’ experiences of empowerment and cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body.  In this workshop, you will be introduced theoretical underpinnings of TCTSY and the application of core components.   Lori shares her deep dedication and practice with many personal and professional anecdotes and testimonials. Be ready for interaction, discussion and some TCTSY practice.

Why Choose Yoga To Treat Chronic Pain?
Limited Capacity seats available

Living with chronic pain has become a common experience in this country. Allopathic medicine has taken aim at the issue, yet sorely missed the target while incurring staggering societal and economic costs. It is clear from the opioid crisis that our health care system needs to compassionately attend to the complex biopsychosocial roots of chronic pain. A deeper understanding of how our nervous system maladapts to morph acute pain into chronic pain is emerging. Mulitmodal solutions to the growing problem of chronic pain in society constitutes right action. Treatment rather than management of chronic pain is the new frontier. Yoga offers a time honored path for humanity to recognize and relieve suffering, so it is not surprising that attention is turning to how the practice can assist in treatment of chronic pain. Yoga is clearly a science of the mind that fully engages the physical mental, energetic and spiritual aspects of our being as instruments for our healing. Many students (and teachers) initially enter the practice of Yoga seeking relief from some form of chronic pain, as it is an embodied phenomenon. Why does yoga seem to help? We are witnessing an exciting new era of integration of the science and the wisdom traditions. Discover what the scientific community is learning about why suffering human beings through the ages may find what they are seeking when they practice this ancient art.

If you are looking to design a practice that fits your body and supports life-long functional wellness, this class is for you. Embodied Posture Methodology, or EPM, empowers you to align yoga postures to best suit your uniqueness. Through over 25 years of studying the human body and teaching yoga, Stacy Dockins developed this innovative approach that integrates bio-individuality and long-term, sustainable functional wellness. Combining body awareness, science, and exploration, Stacy provides practical information you can immediately apply on your mat to get the most out of your practice. They will share their methodology of presenting postures as a collection of movement actions, enabling you to skillfully deconstruct and reconstruct them for your maximum benefit. Their exploratory cues will guide you to experience various sensations available in the posture so that you can use your mat as a vehicle for returning back home into your body. Whether you are a student or a teacher, EPM will show you how to critically approach postural alignment. Yoga poses will be more accessible and effective than ever before. Most importantly, you will cultivate the tool of Embodiment, the ability to tune in to what is arising from within your own body.

Love Your Belly
Limited Capacity seats available

Let’s start by clearing up some of the confusion around our bellies.  Many of us have been taught to hold the belly in or to work the external “cosmetic” muscles in order to get rock-hard washboard abs.  Healthy muscles are springy and elastic.  They have resilience and the ability to both contract and release.  Learn exercises to strengthen your deep internal muscles, support digestion, and stabilize your skeleton.    Embody the deep wisdom of Uddiyana, learning to draw the belly in and up, under the rib cage to release pain and tension in the low back.  Play with fun and silly Nauli, or “butter churning” and feel a deep massage and release in your abdominal muscles.  Heat it up with Agni Sara, pulling the fire of your pelvis up into your heart.  Brighten and relax from the inside out with sweet, soothing Agni Raj breath.  Abdominal exercises will be interwoven with asana practice to include sun salutations, standing poses, arm balances, inversions, back bends, and hip openers.  Variations and modifications will be offered and demonstrated for all levels of experience.  Practice working from your core, and movements will become graceful, fluid and easy.  Learn to love your belly!

Resistance Therapy in Thai Yoga Bodywork
Limited Capacity seats available

Most bodywork is an example of an Active/Passive technique where the practioner is active while the receiver remains passive. Resistance Therapy, or muscle energy technique, is a manual procedure that involves voluntary contraction of a receivers muscle in a controlled direction, at various levels of intensity against a precise counterforce applied by the practitioner. Shifting to this Active/Resistant mode is very satisfying for the receiver and actually quite simple for the practioner! It is immensely valuable for achieving favorable results in Yoga and Vedic Thai Bodywork, but is little used or even taught. For example, ‘Twisting’ a receiver into Spinal Rotation Stretch, known in Yoga as Matsyendrasana, and then instructing them to ‘untwist’ as the practioner applies or holds resistance, provides the receiver with a gratifying and deeper experience in which they could not have expressed alone. What are these favorable results we can achieve? Increased range of motion, normalizing restrictions and improved circulation are just a few. Resistance Therapy teaches that a certain amount of stress and tension is necessary for our optimal balance. There is always some measure of holding in our muscular system when we are standing or seated, and imagine if we had no tension in our bladder or anal muscles, especially while we are asleep! This is another good reason to practice your Mulabandha as Resistance Therapy can also be self applied! Join David and Misty as we Joyously apply and surrender to our Resistant Nature, allowing our energy and spirit to soar! (Inspired by our Teacher, Mukti Michael Buck)

After Awakening: Staying Awake
Limited Capacity seats available

Have you “awakened”? It’s happening for more and more people, coming to consciousness, beyond mere beliefs, as spiritual beings, as unique rays of the one loving light. It’s an awesome turning point in life and changes everything for anyone who experiences it. And it’s key to transforming our lives and our world.

Awakening can feel like a transcendent point of arrival, yet it is also the beginning of a new and humbling devotional practice: staying awake. In this session, we will explore what it means to stay awake and what it takes to do so. It is your ongoing awareness and healing of the subliminal energy patterns of outworn emotions and beliefs that is necessary to your staying conscious and free of those patterns and the drama it attracts. Awakening doesn’t automatically do this for you. Rather, just as asanas require attention and presence to your physical body, awakening empowers you to attend to and be present with your emotional and other bodies. Practice, healing and time bring mastery and more joy.

In a guided meditation, you will bring awareness to your chakras from the vantage points of awakened and un-awakened and receive a blessing for your evolutionary transformation.

Moon Cycle Asana
Limited Capacity seats available

Women have known since the dawn of time that we are connected to the moon, so why doesn’t our yoga practice reflect that beautiful cycle of energy? Let’s explore how to shift your practice from day to day, week to week, to follow the ups and downs of energy flow each month. Beginning with a basic overview of the progression of the Moon’s cycle, and how to chart it, we’ll then dive into what that does for your body. From the low and intuitive energy of the New Moon, to the high and powerful energy of the Full Moon, and back again, our bodies and the way they move directly correlate to this path of the Moon in the heavens. After we have established what the cycle of the Moon feels like without and within, we will then experience a mini yoga class of a number of different styles of yoga that can directly compliment that flow.

Japa Yoga - Path of Upliftment and Freedom
Limited Capacity seats available

The human psyche craves harmony and abhors disharmony or discord. This fundamental truth of each of us determines the course of our life, and we take on an expansive and happy life only when we find the state which is always harmonious. This highest state is called Yoga, union with the absolute Self (which when known within is also known without).

If we look at this craving and aversion around harmony and discord we see that it enters every aspect of life, and when we dive deeply within we see that it is vibrational - it is both the nature of sound and the nature of our thoughts. The entire science of Yoga is rooted in the understanding that the great Yogis, sages and seers have shared about the nature of these vibrations, and how to use them in order to uplift our life, from the depths of materialism to the heights of absolute Consciousness - Satchidananda - Existence, Wisdom and Bliss Absolute. Each aspect of this inner science of awakening fits together to uplift the vibrations that we call thought, and thus also our speech and our action.

Mantra Yoga, or Japa Yoga, is one of the most pure and direct methods of upliftment within given us. The simple act of chanting takes us out of our worries and cares, helping us to be present in the moment, with more joy, resilience and resource in our lives. Moments or ecstasy are typically experienced in chanting Japa and Kirtan, and the mind itself is re-wired, centering us more and more within the great peace. Kirtan has become very popular in the west, not so yet Japa (repetition of Mantra). In this workshop we will both explore the theory behind Mantra chanting as well as techniques, while we join together to chant various sacred Japa Mantras.

It warms your mouth and stomach on the inside as well as awaken your spirit with a calm alert as it connects body, mind, and spirit. The inner warm will move your lymphatic system and improve digestion and elimination.     Chinese Gong Fu tea is more relaxing experiences than Japanese tea ceremony. Lively conversations are encouraged while reflecting on what each tea is reviewing to you. Some people can sense the energy right away, others may take awhile. But in the end, all spirits are lifted with pure joy and calmness.     I called this experience tea attunement because you learning to attune to the energy of each tea that we drink.

Yoga for the Three Bodies
Limited Capacity seats available

The Sivananda sequence of asanas is practiced on three levels.  On the physical level the practice sequence warms, works, and stretches each muscle of the body with great "side benefits" of releasing tension, toning and strengthening the body.

But the main emphasis is on moving prana through the body. The sequence of asanas moves energy from chakra to chakra, from the lowest to the highest energy centers. We will discuss why the body must be relaxed for the prana to flow. Also we will look at how the chakras and the nadis are stimulated and cleansed during the sequence. We will use bija mantras to demonstrate this flow of energy.

Finally, we will look at the casual or seed body and see how each asana is a seat of stillness or meditation, looking within from different angles, with the goal of self-realization

Mystic Medicine Circle
The Universal Laws of Nature do not derive from any religion, but instead contain a road map through sacred geometry that reveals our Divine interconnectedness. One of the oldest systems of mystical thought, these teachings are deeply rooted in Ancient Egyptian esoteric wisdom and are based on receiving Truths that help to elevate consciousness in order to become less reactive and more heart centered in unconditional love. It is not enough to do physical yoga because yoga alone cannot open the heart. Learning esoteric wisdom can help assist in the evolution of future life times, strengthens the aura, aligns the being with the Laws of Nature, and help to change mental thought patterns in order to create new habits and move from fate consciousness into one's destiny. Negative seeds are sown in the mental or Divine Realm, pass through the emotional or Astral World, and manifest ease or dis-ease in the action or Physical Plane of existence. A balance of a physical practice and deep understanding of the Laws of Nature help to liberate the soul from the body of pain and move gracefully into the body of Light. In this 2-hour workshop, we will learn about the Law of the Triangle and the 7 Creative Planets. Learn the Primary Planet that reveals the elements and energies we chose to be born with in order to understand who we are and what we chose to express in this lifetime. Connect with the plants and trees that support your Primary Planet as well as the 7 days of the week. Get anointed by 7 plant and tree teachers, enjoy a powerful vibrational healing bath, and chant Naam meditation to seal the forces of wisdom and healing into the entire being.

We will discuss the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor, how pregnancy and childbirth changes things-even years later (it’s not normal to wet your pants or feel like your female organs are falling out afterwards!), and how we can create a strong and also relaxed pelvic floor through the use of various yoga poses and breathing techniques. We explore “Kegels” and when to practice or avoid them. Nothing is off limits in this workshop as we discuss details about sexual health, bowel and bladder function-and dysfunction-and how yoga can help. No worries, our clothes stay on. ☺

Elemental Lu Jong: A View of The World
Limited Capacity seats available

Lu Jong recognizes that we have an unassailable connection with the natural environment. Being in tune with natural rhythms has a profoundly positive effect upon our wellbeing. The elemental building blocks of Space, Earth, Wind, Fire & Water comprise all natural phenomena including our bodies, minds and energies in addition to the earth, oceans and outer space. When the Five Elements within are in disharmony, the outward manifestation is discomfort, negative emotions and disease. The Five Elements Movements balance emotional energies, activate the flow of internal vitality, and harmonize bio-energetic substances (hormones). We will explore each of the Five Elements as relates to Inner, Outer, and Secret levels and learn a specific movement to recalibrate its energy and effects upon the body and mind. Students will also be introduced to the foundations of this Lu Jong Practice: Tantrayana Buddhism, Bon and Tibetan Medicine.

Groove Into Bliss: Creating a Musical Vortex
As vibrational beings in a vibrational universe, we learn to use the power of music to affect our energy and the energy of those around us, toward the goal of uplifting and raising positive vibes. Using a variety of musical intensities; STILL, CHILL and THRILL, we learn to calibrate our energy and modulate our state of being. After some discussion and sharing, the musicians will perform an improvisational piece of music which embodies and expresses the collective prayers of the group. We culminate with group singing and chanting and dancing, all in joyous expression of our highest intentions. It's a concert, a gathering, a party, a talk, an active meditation!

The Zen of....ummm.....actual Zen
Limited Capacity seats available

What is Zen? A Google search starting with "The Zen of" yields these top suggestions: "screaming," "python" (a computer language), and "social media marketing"). I don't think any of those are what the Buddha had in mind. Zen, as a school of Buddhism, has a long and rich history, but all of it points to one thing. What is this one thing? (Hint: it's not just pretending to be calm.) Zen is funny. Shunryu Suzuki famously said that he could explain Zen in two words: "Not always so." We will discuss a little of the history and practices, with opportunities to experience some of them for yourself. In this interactive session, you will have time to ask any question you like about Zen Buddhist practice.

The Goddess Within (Every Woman) There is a Goddess residing within every woman: at least one, and I want to teach you how to inspire her to come out and play more!! The Goddess is an aspect of us that is beautiful, fierce, sensual, intuitive, powerful and wise. She is there through our best moments, radiating brightly like the sun. She’s there in our most trying moments, when we’re angry, sad or heartbroken. She is the great supporter. She is the radiant essence of ourselves. But too often there are moments of great self-doubt and self-judgment, when the inner criticism takes over and disconnects you from your true essence. Your true essence is a force of nature, a power-woman, and a bold, sensual ALIVE woman! The Goddess wants to support you from the inside out, are you going to receive her blessings? What would happen if you knew exactly what you want to do, and how to do it? And, what if nothing was wrong? This workshop offers a cornucopia of practical tools, all guided with Hemalayaa’s trademark charm, good humor, yoga, dance, meditation and spiritual transformational exercises to enable you to reach this critical point of being—of embodying your intuitive, sexy, powerful, and radiant truth.

Happy Hips!
Limited Capacity seats available

Join us in an invigorating and intensive hip opening session and experience precise and fluid movements that can remove tension on a physical, emotional, and energetic level. You will be guided to approach the opening of the hips in a fun and patient way, allowing the body time to respond. When the hips are open and loose, the rest of your body will feel more supported and at ease. Learn techniques to gently stretch and open the hips. Increase flexibility, explore different rotations of the hips and safe, effective ways to open them, relieving stress on lumbar, sacroiliac, and knee joints, plus you’ll clear, awaken and balance the two base chakras. The hip area is a complex cluster of powerful muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and we can begin to loose the rotation, flexion, and extension they need to remain agile. Life today requires that we sit too much — sports, such as running and cycling (even walking) demand hip strength but not flexibility, and everyday stress creates tension in your hip area. You will be guided to approach the opening of the hips in a patient way, allowing the body time to respond. When the hips are open and loose, the rest of your body will feel more supported and at ease. Unstick your hips and get them gliding freely again!

Lu Jong Tibetan Yoga: The Five Body Parts Movements
When we release the energetic blocks in our channels and chakras our energy, or LUNG as is called in Tibetan, is better able to circulate and operate at optimum levels. The beauty of Lu Jong Tibetan yoga is its accessibility and effectiveness for bringing all levels of students into balance and ultimately empowering them to achieve greater health and happiness with sequences they can continue to do on their own. We open the class with the Five Elements Movements to restore the balance of elemental energies in our bodies and then delve into a series of movements developed specifically to address the musculoskeletal system. Gentle movements combined with the breath address different parts of our spine as we work from the head down through the lower extremities.

Moving from the Core
Limited Capacity seats available

We talk about working the “core” yet when we hear that, most of us immediately think of the “six pack abs” when in fact there is much more to the core than a nice looking stomach. The body’s “core” refers to the muscles around the abdomen, pelvis and back, they are also the spines primary stabilizers. The core muscles are almost always active, from sitting to standing, walking to running, the core muscles are at work stabilizing our body. Weak core muscles make one more susceptible to poor posture, back pain and injuries during activity. Core exercises train the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work in harmony. This leads to better balance, stability, lean and strong abdominal muscles, and a stronger, more fluid yoga practice.

Unlocking Vishuddha Through Sound and Song
Limited Capacity seats available

Vissudha or the throat chakra is our channel for communication, self expression and creative identity. It is our best tool for expressing emotion, feeling, need and self identity. It is the channel through which we best connect to the vibrational pull of the universe and dance in it’s rhythm. It’s power is paramount for personal change and growth. Any sort of block in the fifth chakra can cause stifling feelings of being misunderstood, unheard and lonely, leaving a sense of disconnectedness from ourselves and each other. So what strategies do we have to keep this channel open? How do we find the key to unlock our most free and authentic voice? How do we best communicate our needs and desires? How can we be heard? This workshop will guide you on a journey of self discovery, utilizing the power of change facilitated by the fifth chakra. With specific attention to singing, sound and spontaneous chant, you will learn how to use breath and bodywork to find more freedom in the sound of your voice as well as unravel muscular tension within the throat that inhibits sound. Seed sounds and toning will be used and collectively we will create spontaneous songs with the intention of allowing more freedom into our lives. Each participant will walk away with a profound understanding of what it is to be heard and a new song in their heart.

GRAVITY & GRACE: Tools to Rewire Your Subtle Body
Limited Capacity seats available

Our mind is a powerful instrument, where we can realize everything is temporary and nothing is impossible. This is felt when we recognize our subtle body possesses many 'minds' - the mind in our head, throughout our spine, in our heart and in our gut, to name a few. With creative use of Gravity as a catalyst for movement, and Grace as a consequence of surrender, this dynamic 3-part practice will support the gentle “rewiring” of your neural circuitry responsible for effortless motion, healing, and infinite possibilities. The result helps build refined levels of attention and focus, which encourages greater sensitivity in different 'seats' of mind, and through consistent practice, builds flexibility, strength, and stillness naturally.

Somatics and the Art of Teaching Yoga
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

This fun and innovative SOMATICS workshop will introduce all levels of yoga teachers to a path for going deeper within themselves and with their yoga teaching. You will: * Gain insights into the 6 Somatic principles for masterful yoga teaching. * Understand and practice 6 ways of relating to your body moment to moment, and learn how to invite yourself and your students deeper. * Utilize a Somatic approach to deepen your Embodied Presence, build Somatic Awareness and speak with profound Authenticity. Many highly experienced teachers use Somatics as a potent pathway to masterful teaching. Somatics guides us to learn from the body up, rather than the head down. It helps us learn from the inside out, rather than the outside in. Using Somatics we ground what we learn and know through our personal experience. This delivers an intimacy and authenticity to one's life and teaching. Somatics is a powerful way to cultivate Embodied Presence, thus a powerful path to mastery in the art of teaching yoga. This class helps beginning yoga teachers become more CONFIDENT and COMFORTABLE working with groups and experienced yoga teachers move their teaching from GOOD to GREAT. WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING “These powerful concepts and practices grounded me in the present moment and gave me courage to extend outward to greater possibilities within and around me. Mike is a master at communicating effectively and with great care and compassion. I highly recommend this course to other teachers!" -- SW, CYT 200
